Our department faculty member Prof. Dr. Orhan ÇAKAR carried out the Science Talks event with the students of Elazığ Science and Art Center (BİLSEM) for three days between December 5-7, 2024. BİLSEM School Principal Zülfü YAPICI, Vice President Veli KAYA, Class Teacher Mehmet GÜNEŞ who organized the event, and other teachers and students attended the event. In addition, our university Fırat University Technology (FÜTEK) Student Community and TROKET team members who carry out their activities at Elazığ OSB Design and Innovation Center, Elazığ OSB Design and Innovation Center Responsible Manager Aydın DEMİRDAĞ and Mechanical Engineer Uğur DOKGÖZ were present to contribute. The Gökruh rocket, which won the 3rd place in Turkey in the 2021 TEKNOFEST Rocket Competition and won the original design award in the IREK rocket competition held at the Spaceport Space Base in the state of New Mexico, United States of America, was also exhibited at the event. As you may recall, the rocket named GÖKRUH V7, which was produced by the TROKET team, which is also a member of our department and whose team captain is Master's student Mechanical Engineer İsmet ÖZEN, at the Elazığ OSB Design and Innovation Center, achieved a first in the Challenging Task Category in the rocket races held within the scope of TEKNOFEST this year and became the First in Turkey.
In the event, the students consisting of six different groups were introduced to the Engineering and specifically the Mechanical Engineering Department and were informed about the TEKNOFEST #National Technology Move, the races held within the scope of TEKNOFEST and the Efficiency Challenge Electric Vehicle Races and Rocket Races attended under the consultancy of Prof. Dr. Orhan ÇAKAR. In addition, information was given on electric vehicle and rocket technologies and an awareness was created among the students.
At the end of the event, the school Principal Zülfü YAPICI, Prof. Dr. He thanked Orhan ÇAKARA and presented him with a plaque made by BİLSEM students in memory of the day, and the event ended with a group photo taken with the participants of the last talk.
