The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Fırat University started education in 1967 as Elazığ Technical School with the Law No. 7475; it was transformed into Elazığ State Engineering and Architecture Academy with the Law No. 1184 enacted in 1969.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering continued its education and training function within the Academy until 1982. In the same year, it was connected to the Faculty of Engineering at Fırat University with the Law No. 2547 on Higher Education. The Second Education Program started in the 1992-1993 academic year. It is currently being continued as the Normal (Daytime) Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Program.
Our department has been accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK), which is recognized as a national quality assurance organization by the Council of Higher Education in the accreditation of engineering programs, since 2006.
MÜDEK is a member of the European Engineering Education Accreditation Network ENAEE and is authorized by ENAEE to issue the EUR-ACE Label. It is also a MÜDEK Washington Accord Member.
