Fırat University Mechanical Engineering Department started education in 1967 as Elazığ Higher Technical School with Law No. 7475; It was transformed into Elazığ State Engineering and Architecture Academy with the Law No. 1184 enacted in 1969.

           The Department of Mechanical Engineering continued its education and training function within the Academy until 1982. In the same year, it was affiliated with Fırat University Faculty of Engineering with the Higher Education Law No. 2547. The Evening Education Program started in the 1992-1993 academic year. Normal (Evening Education) and Night (Evening Education) programs are carried out as separate but completely equivalent Mechanical Engineering Undergraduate Programs.

            Our department has been accredited by the Engineering Education Programs Evaluation and Accreditation Association (MÜDEK), which is recognized by the Council of Higher Education as a national quality assurance organization for the accreditation of engineering programs, since 2006.

        MÜDEK is a member of the European Engineering Education Accreditation Network ENAEE and is authorized by ENAEE to issue the EUR-ACE Label. He is also a member of MÜDEK Washington Accord.
